Brokers feeling more bullish about 2025: Investec – Mortgage Strategy

Some  91% of brokers anticipate business growth over the next 12 months, up 10% from 2024, however, concerns remain on macro-economic volatility and the challenge of securing repeat business.

This is according to the latest findings from Investec Bank’s  recent UK mortgage broker event, which focussed on HNW clients (those earning at least £300,000 a year).

Answering the question: ‘Do you think your business will grow, decrease, or stay the same over the next 12 months?’ Only 8% predicted their business to remain the same, down from 16% in 2024.

However, while the increased optimism was deemed encouraging, brokers this year identified the challenge of securing repeat business as their second most significant issue, up from third place last year.

Consistent with last year, when discussing their HNW client base, brokers identified the most pressing concern for these clients was the ability to utilise a diverse range of income—such as investment returns or bonuses—in affordability calculations.

This was followed by the speed of financing as the second priority and achieving a sufficiently high loan-to-value (LTV) ratio as the third.

Commenting on the findings Investec Bank  head of intermediary business development Peter Izard said: “The insights shared by brokers at this event are invaluable. High net worth individuals often have complex financial situations that require tailored solutions and exceptional service.

He added: “It’s encouraging to see strong expectations of business growth among mortgage brokers, indicating a robust belief in the resilience of the mortgage market. However, the data reveals that many brokers remain concerned about macro-economic headwinds. Additionally, an increasing number of brokers are worried about securing new business as they move through 2025.”
